A Special Dose: Which Subscription App is Best?

Not sure which one to choose?

Matt here with your weekly Subscription Prescription 💊

This is a special episode! I get asked every day about ‘the best subscription app.’ Instead of telling everyone, IT DEPENDS! I decided to make a dose about it by interviewing my good friend and fellow subscription expert, Andriy Rudnyk.

How Do You Manage Chargebacks

Chargebacks cost e-commerce $31 billion dollars every year.

Subscription brands suffer the most from this; many people will see a charge months down the road and mark it as fraud because they forgot its from you. Or worse, they see that as the ‘easy way’ to cancel their subscription with you.

Chargebacks are nearly impossible to manage manually. They take a lot of time and effort, and did you know that you have the chance to challenge them before they take effect?

When done well - you can win more than you lose. Better yet, it can be automated with software by an amazing partner: Chargeflow.

Chargeflow takes out the manual labor and guesswork of challenging and fighting claims. They’re used by brands like Obvi, Huel, and Freebird.

Freebird, one of our clients, wins 70% of their chargebacks with Chargeflow!

The best part is that you can get a free audit from them today to see how they can improve your win rate. This is a no-brainer solution that more than pays for itself right away!

Which subscription app is best?

A question that comes up over and over again. One I get asked all of the time.

In general, there is no ‘best app,’ although there are apps that are best at doing certain things.

For example, Loop, Stay, and Awtomic have great retention tools for surprise and delight and engagement.

Some are better at subscription boxes versus subscribe and save than others. Some are better starter apps and only a few are great for enterprise.

If you’re looking at a new app, or want to hear us dive into the messy landscape of subscription apps, then this dose is one for you! We also talk about migrations and how to be successful on them.

Special thanks to Andriy for joining me on this one.

If you’re looking at switching or getting into subscriptions, keep this in mind when evaluating software:

  • Ask for trials as you setup and test - this takes some time with any app to ensure it works the way you need it to

  • Ask for favorable pricing - it’s a competitive market out there and you can probably get a better price than you thought

  • Pay attention to how you’re onboarded - that’s usually a good example for how support will go!

If you want some help evaluating the best tool for your business, let me know what you’re thinking! I know Andriy is happy to help as well.
